I understand my own writing as a process of exploration, retreat and self mediation. I cannot conceive life without my desk, my paper, my sounds, my technology, my silences and my thought. In my work I search to create emotional pauses, moments of metacognition and memorable focused experiences.
My scores are a combination of precise instructions and free interpretation. They use traditional conventions and interpretation of graphic, human interactions and/or media symbols, gestural translations along with temporal and space specificity. Many of my latest scores are highly collaborative, open source and require creative musicians and non-musicians to perform them. In my scores I search to illustrate, convey and/or suggest the necessary guidance to co-create the musical experience along with the performer(s) and sometimes even with collaborators outside of music.
I strongly embrace collaboration. I believe that geographical diversity, intersection of interests and phenomena coming from other fields of knowledge will create a more engaging sound experiences. Being a composer has given me a very specific set of tools to engage in distant ventures such as transdisciplinary projects, social activism and entrepreneurial innovation. I think music is very powerful and it still has a role in the betterment of society.
I do not limit myself to the solely act of music writing. I see every project as a “piece”, regardless of its nature. For me, planning a social program is as beautiful as making a piece of music, it is just a different outcome. But the creative processes and values of my music are then translated to my other endeavors outside of music.
Openness and tolerance are two of my core values, therefore I reject nothing.
===========
My writing focuses on the exploration of how trans-disciplinary collaboration, sound physicality, and social context influenced the resulting sound. Almost every new work of music that I write, becomes an opportunity to create a community based environment with experts in fields other than music. This collaborative approach is crucial to be able to explore new sound worlds, concepts and creative processes beyond my solely scope. My music has a special interest in the experience of sound production, sound physicality and physical perception of sound as an important exciter of human emotion. Lastly, social context, particularly the role of technology and the use of music as a catalyst of social integration.
